Who Was Bishop McCauley?

Vincent Joseph McCauley, C.S.C., was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa in 1906, a son of the American heartland who heard the call to serve beyond all borders. Entering the Congregation of Holy Cross in 1924, he embraced a life of sacrifice, teaching and ministering before being sent as a missionary to Bengal.

Appointed the first Bishop of Fort Portal in Uganda, he spent decades building the local Church, constructing schools, seminaries, and hospitals. His missionary zeal and love for the poor earned him the title "Father of AMECEA" and a lasting legacy of unity in Eastern Africa.

“To love Christ means to give oneself entirely, to pour out one's life so that the light of the Gospel may shine in every corner of the earth.”
